Experience the divine joy of Vrindavan with this stunning Kondapalli Krishna on Swing (Unjal) Tableau. This handcrafted masterpiece depicts Lord Krishna playing his celestial flute while seated on a swing under a lush tree, surrounded by Gopis in a celebratory Raas Leela dance. A cornerstone of the 400-year-old Aryakshatriya woodcarving legacy, this piece brings a touch of spiritual elegance and rhythmic grace to your home.
The Story: The Divine Play of Krishna
The Unjal Krishna (Krishna on a Swing) is a beloved theme in Indian art, symbolizing the rhythmic harmony of the universe and the soul's devotion to the divine. This set captures the vibrant energy of the scene, featuring Gopis with Dandiya sticks dancing around their Lord. It is a celebration of "Dharmic living" and the eternal bond between the creator and the devotee, traditionally displayed to invite prosperity and peace.
Masterful Artisan Craftsmanship
- Eco-Friendly Material: Meticulously hand-carved from Tella Poniki (White Sander), a rare and incredibly lightweight softwood found in the Kondapalli Hills.
- Intricate Assembly: Each figure — from the delicate flute-playing Krishna to the dynamic Gopis — is carved individually and joined using makku, a traditional adhesive paste made from tamarind seeds and sawdust.
- Vibrant Heritage Art: The tableau features a brilliant palette of reds, greens, and blues, applied using traditional vegetable dyes and natural pigments that emphasize lifelike expressions and traditional attire.
- GI-Tagged Authenticity: This product carries the official Geographical Indication (GI) status, ensuring it is an authentic heritage craft from the village of Kondapalli.
Product Usage & Golu Displays
- Festive Centerpiece: An essential addition to Bommala Koluvu (Golu) displays during Navratri and Sankranti. It is traditionally placed on the middle tiers to represent mythological legends and divine stories.
- Cultural Decor: Perfect for pooja rooms, living spaces, or as a meaningful gift for housewarmings and weddings.
Care Instructions
To preserve the intricate craftsmanship and vibrant colors:
- Dusting: Use a soft, dry microfiber cloth or a soft brush for regular cleaning.
- Moisture Warning: Do not submerge in water or use wet cloths, as moisture can cause the softwood to warp and dissolve the natural biological adhesives.
- Avoid Chemicals: Never use alcohol-based or harsh chemical cleaners, which can damage the delicate protective coating and natural dyes.
- Placement: Display in a cool, dry area away from direct sunlight to prevent the pigments from fading.
Each piece is 100% handmade; minor variations in color, expression, and carving are hallmarks of authentic artisanal work, making your set uniquely yours.
